You can find us at New Motor Market 29, which is where Punjab Motors & Batteries has been operating for a good long time. This part of town is always greasy and loud because of all the mechanics and spare parts shops around us. We spend our days surrounded by heavy lead batteries and engine parts. It is hard work because batteries are heavy and the shop gets quite hot during the summer months. We usually have a few batteries on the charging bench and old ones piled up in the corner waiting to be dealt with. The people who come here are mostly truck drivers or local folks whose cars won't start in the morning. We don’t use any complicated language or have a fancy waiting room with air conditioning. It is just a practical workshop environment where we get our hands dirty every single day. The floor always has a few oil stains no matter how much we sweep it, but that is just how a motor market shop looks. Shop number 29 is easy to spot once you get into the market area. We start our day with a cup of tea and then it’s just one job after another until the sun goes down. We don’t do anything fancy, we just focus on the batteries and the motors that come our way and try to keep things moving for our regular customers.
