Pawan Provision Stores

Down here in Keshavpura, Pawan Provision Stores is where I spend my mornings and evenings. It’s just a typical grocery spot for the folks who live in the area. I stock the basics like milk, bread, eggs, and all the various spices people use in their daily cooking. The shop isn't very large, so things are stacked pretty close together on the wooden racks. I try to keep it neat, but when a big shipment of rice sacks comes in, there’s hardly any room to move around the counter. I’ve been in this area long enough that I don't even need to ask most people what they want; they just point or I already know their usual list. It's a lot of manual labor, lifting heavy bags and rearranging the shelves every time something sells out. Sometimes the power goes out, and we just use flashlights and candles until it comes back on. It's not the kind of place you'd find in a mall with air conditioning. It’s just a local shop where you can hear the neighbors chatting outside on the street. I get here early to open up before the milk truck arrives at dawn. By the time I close up the shutters at night, I’m usually pretty tired, but it’s a good kind of work. People around here depend on us for their daily needs, so I try to stay open as much as I can, even on the weekends.
