Panna Lal Kirana Store

Down in Adarsh Nagar in Kota, you will find my kirana store. It is situated in a residential area, so most of my customers are the people who live in the surrounding houses. I keep the basic things like lentils, rice, wheat flour, and different kinds of cooking oils. The shop isn't very large, so I have to stack the sacks of grain against the walls. Kota is known for its students, and sometimes they come in looking for Maggi or some quick snacks to eat while they study. I have been here for a long time, and I know which brands my regulars prefer. I don't have any computers or fancy billing machines; I just write everything down in my notebook and use a small plastic calculator. The counter is old and the wood is a bit worn out where people lean on it. I usually spend my mornings talking to the milkman and the bread delivery guy. In the afternoons, when it gets quiet, I sometimes take a small nap on a chair behind the counter. It is a steady life, and I like being my own boss. I make sure to keep the shelves stocked, though sometimes it is hard to get everything I need from the wholesalers on time. My family lives nearby, so they often bring me tea or lunch while I am working at the store.
