Mohan Kirana & General Store

The shop is right here on Nayapura Khai Road. I’ve been opening the doors of Mohan Kirana & General Store every morning for quite some time now. Most days start early because people need their milk and bread before they go off to work or take the kids to school. It gets a bit dusty on this road, so I spend some time wiping down the jars and shelves. We keep the usual things you’d expect like pulses, rice, soaps, and little snacks for the kids. It’s not a big fancy supermarket or anything like that. Just a regular corner shop where people come in to pick up what they forgot to buy at the main market. Sometimes the supply truck is late, and I have to explain to the regulars why we’re out of a certain brand of tea. That’s just how it goes here. The space is small, and we try to fit as much as possible on the wooden racks. I know most of the people who walk through the door by their names. We talk about the weather or how the road construction is taking forever. It feels good to be a part of the neighborhood. If you are walking down Khai Road, you’ll see our sign. It’s a simple life, keeping track of inventory and making sure the change is right. I usually have a cup of tea around eleven when things quiet down. It’s a decent way to spend the day. Nothing more to it, really.
