The shop is right on Chhawani Road, and it gets quite busy around here in the evenings. I usually start the day by sweeping the front step and checking if any of the glass bangles got broken in the boxes. It’s a lot of small things to keep track of. Ribbons, clips, and those little decorative items that people need for festivals or weddings. The shelves go all the way up to the ceiling, so I have to use a small wooden ladder to reach the top ones. Sometimes I forget where I put a specific color of thread, and it takes a while to find it while the customer waits. Chhawani Road always has cars honking, which makes it hard to hear people sometimes. I’ve been in this spot for a while now. The sign outside is a bit dusty, but everyone around here knows where we are. I keep a plastic fan on the counter because it gets quite hot in the afternoons. My lunch comes from home in a steel tiffin, and I eat it quickly between customers. It’s a lot of standing and moving things around, but that is just the work. People come in looking for a specific shade of bindi or a gift, and I do what I can to find it in the piles. It is a bit disorganized, but I know where the important stuff is kept. There is always something to do, even when the shop is empty.
