Kelash General Store

Kelash General Store is right in the heart of the Subzi Mandi area on the Main Road in Kota. Being in the vegetable market area means it is incredibly busy from very early in the morning. There is always a lot of mud and noise around because of the trucks and the vegetable sellers. Our shop is a bit of an escape from that chaos, though we are still quite crowded inside. We stock things that the people coming to the Mandi might need, like tea, sugar, and basic groceries to take back home. Kota gets very hot in the summer, and the shop can feel like an oven sometimes, but we just keep the water pot filled and keep going. The shelves are packed tight with everything from spices to washing powder. We don't really have a system for where things go; we just know where they are. It’s a family-run business and we’ve been part of this market for years. You’ll often find us arguing with delivery drivers about where to park or checking the quality of a new batch of pulses. It’s hard work and the hours are long, but we like being in the middle of all the action in the Subzi Mandi. We don't have any big marketing plans; we just rely on the fact that people know we are here and that we have what they need.
