Kaluram Prajapati

My name is Kaluram and I’ve been working out of this spot on Udyog Marg in Prem Nagar for quite some time now. People in the neighborhood just know me by my name. It’s a simple setup here, nothing too big or flashy. Every morning starts with opening the shutters and sweeping the front bit of the shop. Prem Nagar has changed a lot over the years, more traffic and more noise, but our routine stays pretty much the same. I handle things personally most of the day. Sometimes people stop by just to talk while I'm working on something. It gets a bit dusty being near the road, but you get used to that after a week or two. There are days when things are slow and I just sit on the wooden bench outside watching the bikes go past. Then suddenly three people will show up at once wanting something done. I don't really use computers for much, mostly just keeping notes in a physical register that’s starting to fall apart at the edges. My hands are usually a bit dirty from the work, but that’s just how it goes when you’re actually doing the labor yourself. I’ve lived around here long enough that I don’t need a map for any of these lanes. It’s a quiet life in its own way, even with the industrial noise nearby. We just keep our heads down and do the work that comes our way.
