The shop is tucked away in the Sabzi Mandi Gali near the DCM Chourah. Because of the vegetable market, there is always a crowd and the smell of fresh onions and potatoes nearby. It is a very busy part of Udyog Marg. I open the shop quite early because that is when the market is the most active. My shop is small, and I sell things like thread, needles, and colorful bangles. I have to keep everything in small plastic bins so they don't get mixed up. People coming from the Mandi often stop by to pick up some small items for their homes. The street outside is narrow, so it can get very cramped when a cart goes by. I have a small wooden bench where I sit, and I keep a bottle of water tucked under the counter. The walls are covered in hooks holding packets of hair clips and bindis. It can get a bit overwhelming with all the colors and shapes, but I know exactly where everything is. Sometimes the power goes out, and I have to use a flashlight to show people the goods. I’ve been here for a long time, and I know the names of most people who walk past the door every day. It’s a noisy place, but it feels like home to me. I spend my afternoons drinking tea and listening to the shouting of the vendors outside.
