Jaipur Confectionery Store

Our little shop, Jaipur Confectionery Store, sits right in the middle of Dhanmandi Subzi Mandi. Being in a vegetable market means it is always loud and crowded right outside our door from very early in the morning. We sell all the basic stuff like sweets, biscuits, and local snacks that people want to grab on their way home. The shop is quite small, and when we have more than a couple of customers inside, it feels very cramped. We have these old glass jars lined up on the shelves filled with different types of colorful candies. It’s not a fancy place with bright lights or anything like that. The floor is just plain stone and the walls could use some new paint. During the monsoon, the whole market gets very muddy and we spend a lot of time mopping the floor. We know most of the regular shoppers and the other vendors around here. My wife helps me out during the busy evening hours when the office workers are heading back home. We don't have a big sign or any advertisements in the newspaper. People just find us while they are out buying their potatoes and onions. It is a simple life and we are happy just keeping the jars filled and talking to the neighbors who stop by for a chat. We just keep our heads down and serve whoever comes to the counter.
