Gambhir Genaral Store

Gambhir Genaral Store sits right near the Dadabadi Circle in Pratap Nagar. It’s a convenient spot for the people living in the apartments and houses around here. I keep a bit of everything. There’s flour, rice, soaps, and lots of snacks for the kids when they get out of school in the afternoon. I know exactly where everything is on the shelves, even if it looks a bit messy to someone else walking in. I start early, usually before most people are even awake, to get the milk crates inside and stacked. The morning rush is the busiest time for me. Everyone wants their bread and eggs at the same time before work. I’ve known some of these families for years. I saw their kids grow up and now those kids come in to buy stuff for their own homes. The shelves are packed pretty tight to fit all the stock. Sometimes I have to use a long stick to reach the boxes on the very top shelf. It’s not a supermarket where you walk around with a cart. You just tell me what you need and I get it for you. We chat about the weather or the local news while I bag things up. I don't use a computer for billing, I just write it down in my ledger. It’s how I’ve always done it. When it’s quiet in the afternoon, I sit on my stool and watch the traffic go around the circle.
