Divya Saree Sangam

Divya Saree Sangam is located at 106 New Cloth Market on Geeta Bhawan Road. This whole area is dedicated to fabric and clothes, so we are surrounded by other shops just like ours. It makes for a very competitive environment, but we mostly just focus on our own four walls. The shop is filled with various types of sarees that we get from different suppliers. My cousin and I run the place. We start the day by pulling out the latest arrivals and trying to find space for them on the already crowded shelves. Geeta Bhawan Road is always jammed with rickshaws and delivery trucks, so getting our new stock inside is often a bit of a struggle. We don't have any fancy displays or mannequins in the window. We just rely on the fact that people know we are here. Most of our customers are locals who have been coming to this market for years. We spend a lot of time talking about the quality of the thread and the way the colors might run or stay. It’s practical talk. There isn't any room for fluff when you're dealing with cloth. The shop gets a bit cramped when more than three people are inside, but we make it work. We just keep a pot of water in the corner and a simple chair for anyone who needs to rest their legs while they decide.
