Dancing Adda

Right on Jawahar Nagar Main Road, that’s where you’ll find us. Being on the main road means it’s never actually quiet. There’s the sound of buses and cars all day long, and it kind of blends into the music after a while. We’re on the first floor, so you have to come up the narrow staircase by the tea stall. The room is wide and has a lot of natural light during the day, which is nice until the sun gets too low and starts blinding everyone. We’ve got some mats rolled up in the corner for when we do floor work, but mostly it’s just the bare floor. We don’t have a uniform or anything like that, people just show up in whatever they’re wearing. It’s a bit of a mixed bag of people, from teenagers to older folks who just want to keep moving. We keep a big water dispenser near the door because it gets really humid in here when the room is full. The paint is peeling a bit near the ceiling from an old leak we had last monsoon, but it’s dry now. We don’t really mind the imperfections. It’s a place that feels used and lived in, which is exactly how we like it. There’s no pretense here, just a lot of hard work and the occasional missed step. We just keep the music playing.
