Being in Saraf Bazar means we are surrounded by jewelry shops. It is a very old and busy part of Kota Junction. People come from all over to visit the bazaar, and many of them find their way into my shop. I don't sell gold, but I have all the "fancy" items that go along with it, like artificial jewelry and hair accessories. The shop has been here for years, and the wooden counters are worn smooth from people leaning on them. I spend my mornings dusting the glass cases and making sure the necklaces are laid out straight. It is a lot of work to keep everything looking neat when so many people are touching things. The street outside is always full of the sound of rickshaws and people talking. Since we are near the junction, we get a lot of travelers who are just passing through. They often want something small and cheap to take back with them. I keep a small mirror on the wall so customers can see how the earrings look on them. The lighting isn't the best, but we make do with what we have. I usually close up late in the evening when the crowds in the bazaar start to thin out. It’s a long day, but I enjoy the bustle of the market. Sometimes the local kids run past, making a lot of noise, and it reminds me of how lively this place really is.
