Chandumal Megraj Kirana Merchant is located right on Kaithooni Pole Road. It’s a name that has been around for a long time. My family has been doing this for years. The shop itself is full of sacks and jars of all kinds of grains and spices. It smells like a mix of everything when you walk in. Kaithooni Pole Road is a busy place, very traditional. We don't have those fancy scanners or bright lights you see in the new malls. We do things the old way. We weigh things out, talk to our customers about their families, and keep a handwritten ledger sometimes. It’s not because we are trying to be "vintage" or anything. It is just how we have always done it and it works. The stone floor is smooth from years of people standing on it. We get our stock from the same people we have known for decades. There is a lot of trust involved. Sometimes the shop gets a bit dusty because of the open door and the road outside. We just sweep it out every morning and evening. We are just simple merchants. We aren't looking to expand into a giant chain. Being here on Kaithooni Pole Road is enough for us. It’s our home as much as it is our business. We see the same people every week and that is what makes the work worthwhile for us.
