We are tucked away in Tilak Sachi Street, right by the Purani Sabji Mandi in the Shakti Nagar area. The shop is Bharat Photo Framing And Gift, and you can usually smell the wood and the glue before you even see the sign on the door. Most of our day is spent at the back table cutting glass or joining frame corners together. It’s dusty work, and there are always little scraps of wood and paper on the floor, no matter how much we sweep. People bring in all sorts of things to get framed—old wedding photos that are starting to fade, school certificates, or even pictures of gods to put in their prayer rooms. We also have a section for gifts, mostly stuff that goes well with frames, like small statues or wall hangings. Being near the old vegetable market means it’s always busy outside, especially in the mornings. You can hear the vegetable sellers shouting and the motorcycles squeezing through the narrow street. It’s a bit of an old-fashioned shop, but that’s how we like it. We’ve had the same workbench for years and we know exactly where every tool is. It’s not a fancy gallery, just a place where we do our work and help people keep their memories safe behind glass. We enjoy the simple routine of it all.
