Baba Gift & Fish Aquarium

Baba Gift & Fish Aquarium is tucked away in Lalburj, near Kaithuni Pole in the Bajaj Khana area. It is a bit of an unusual mix, I suppose, having gifts and fish together, but it has been that way since we started. I spend a lot of my morning cleaning the tanks and making sure the fish are fed and healthy. The sound of the water filters is always in the background while I’m helping customers look at the gift items on the other side of the shop. We have everything from small bowls for goldfish to bigger tanks, and then shelves full of statues and toys. The streets around Bajaj Khana are quite narrow and can get very busy with shoppers. It’s a lively place to be. I often have people coming in just to look at the fish, especially parents with their young children. It’s a nice way to spend the day, even if it is a lot of hard work keeping everything clean. The shop is quite packed, so you have to watch your step around the fish supplies. I don't really have a big philosophy about it; I just like keeping the shop open and seeing the different people who wander in. My hands are usually a bit wet from the tanks, but that’s part of the job. It’s a local business through and through, just serving the people in this old part of town with whatever they need.
