Ashok Provision Store

Ashok Provision Store is on the corner of Gumanpura Kotri Road. It’s a basic grocery shop where we sell the things people need for their kitchens. We have big bags of rice and flour sitting on the floor and jars of sweets on the counter for the kids. The road outside is usually full of people going to work or coming home, and many of them stop here to grab what they need for dinner. We’ve been in Gumanpura for a long time and we know which families like which brand of tea. The shop is small and the aisles are narrow so you have to squeeze past if there are more than three people inside. We don't have a fancy billing system, just a calculator and some paper. Sometimes the ceiling fan squeaks but it keeps us cool enough. We spend a lot of time weighing out lentils or packing sugar into smaller bags. It’s a simple way to spend the day. We see the kids grow up and start coming in to buy their own stuff. The Kotri Road area is a good place to be because everyone knows each other. We just keep the shelves full and the door open for whoever needs a bit of salt or some cooking oil. Sometimes the delivery guys come and block the entrance, but we just work around it. That is just life at the store every day. We are just here to help our neighbors get what they need.
