Ajay Traders

We operate out of Gumanpura and we handle things a bit differently than the food shops around us. Being traders means our space is mostly full of big sacks and boxes stacked against the walls. There isn't much room to walk around once a new shipment comes in. We have a small desk with a calculator and a few pens that usually don't work. The phone rings a lot and it is usually someone asking about prices or when their stuff will arrive. It can be a bit stressful when the trucks are delayed or the weather is bad. We don't have a fancy showroom. It is just a functional place with a concrete floor and a big rolling shutter. Most of our day is spent checking lists and making sure the numbers match up. We have a few regular guys who help with the heavy lifting and we usually sit together for tea in the afternoon when things quiet down. The Gumanpura traffic is always a problem for our deliveries but we have learned to deal with it. We have been in this trade for a long time and we know the market pretty well. It is not an exciting job but it is steady. We don't have a website or anything like that, just a landline and a lot of registers filled with handwriting.
