Sarvodya Rice Mill

Sarvodya Rice Mill is tucked away in Village Chahad, right off Koriya Road. It’s a quiet area until the harvest starts. Then everything changes. We have a lot of space out here which is good for the trucks. The sun hits the metal roof in the afternoon and it gets pretty warm inside. We usually have the fans going full blast. We mostly handle paddy from the surrounding fields. It’s honest work. Sometimes the machinery acts up and we have to spend half the morning fixing a belt or cleaning out a clog. That’s just life in a mill. We don't have a big front desk or a receptionist. If you come by, you'll probably find us near the loading docks or checking the moisture levels. The yard is paved but it still gets dusty. We try to keep the place organized so we don't lose track of the different batches. It’s mostly just us and the grain. The village is small so everyone knows when we are busy. We take a break in the middle of the day for lunch. Usually someone brings something from home and we eat together in the small office. It’s not fancy but it works for us. We've seen a lot of seasons come and go. Each one is a bit different depending on the rain. We just take it as it comes. There is no sense in rushing if the grain is not ready.
