V. LAXMIPATHY SONS is based at the Konark Rice Mill on Mill Street. This place has been around for a while, and you can tell by the way the floorboards creak and the walls look. Being on Mill Street, we are surrounded by the history of this kind of work. The rice mill is a noisy place when the engines are running. There’s a constant hum and the smell of grain in the air. It’s a family-run operation, passed down through the years, so there’s a lot of tradition in how we do things, though we don’t talk about it in a fancy way. It’s just the way it is. We spend our days checking the quality of the rice and making sure the machinery doesn't break down at the wrong time. It’s dusty work, and we all end up covered in a fine layer of white powder by the afternoon. We don’t have a marketing team or a polished website. Our reputation is just based on the people who come to the mill. We know the farmers and the buyers who have been coming here since we were kids. The office is tiny, filled with old registers and a few calendars on the wall. It’s not about being the most modern; it’s about keeping the mill running and getting the rice out to the families who need it. Just simple, honest work on Mill Street that keeps us busy from dawn to dusk.
