We sit here in the block office in Jeypore, right in Koraput district. It’s a busy place most days. The Assistant Engineer and the rest of us handle a lot of paperwork and local projects that come through these doors. Most people know where the block office is, we are right by the main part of town. Sometimes the power goes out or the files get piled high, but we keep showing up. It’s not a fancy office at all. We have wooden desks and old fans that hum while we work on the daily tasks. Our address is 764001 if you are sending anything by post. Mostly, it’s just locals coming in to ask about roads or building stuff in the area. We see a lot of faces from around the villages near Jeypore. The building has been here for a long time and looks its age, but it gets the job done. We try to keep track of everything, though it gets a bit messy during the monsoon when things slow down. There are a few of us here every morning, starting early to beat the heat. We don't have a website or anything like that, just this physical spot where the work happens. If you need to find the engineer, this is the place to wait. It’s just how things go around here. We have some old benches for people to sit on while they wait for their turn. The walls could use a new coat of paint, but that isn't really a priority right now.
