You’ll find us at number 13 on Marakkadai Street, right in the heart of Bamboo Bazar. As you can guess from the area, there’s a lot of wood and bamboo around. The smell of sawdust is always in the air here. We deal with timber and related materials. It’s a very old part of town, and the streets are quite narrow. Trucks struggle to get in and out, so there's always a bit of shouting and maneuvering going on. We have a small yard where we keep the stock. It’s often stacked high, and we have to be careful when moving things around. Our office is just a small cabin at the front. It’s dusty and has a lot of old ledgers. We don't use much technology; a lot of things are still done by hand. People come here because they know we’ve been around for ages. We know the local carpenters and builders by name. It’s a physical job, loading and unloading the wood. Rain makes things difficult because we have to cover everything up quickly. We aren't looking to expand or do anything big. We just like the rhythm of the bazar and the trade we’ve always known. It’s a tough business sometimes, but it’s ours. We just keep the piles straight and wait for the next customer to walk in. Deenadayalan & Company is just a simple timber business.
