About Nirai Agri Farm – Agriculture & Farming in Koomapatty
Down here on Main Road in Koomapatty, things move a bit slower than in the big cities. We spend most of our time out in the dirt at the farm. It’s not a clean job, you’re always getting mud on your boots or dust in your hair. We grow what we can and try to keep the pests away from the crops. The weather is the biggest boss we have, and sometimes it doesn't cooperate at all. We have a small building at number 28 where we keep our tools and some of the harvest before it goes out. It’s a simple setup with a few benches and a lot of empty crates stacked against the wall. Sometimes the neighbors walk over to see what’s growing or to complain about the heat. We don't have any big signs or advertisements. People just know where we are. It’s a lot of bending over and lifting heavy bags, so your back usually hurts by the end of the week. But there’s something nice about seeing things actually grow after you put the work in. We just keep at it, day after day, hoping for enough rain but not too much. Koomapatty is a quiet place and we like it that way. The farm animals from next door sometimes wander over and we have to shoo them away from the seedlings. It is just a lot of basic outdoor work that never really ends.
