Ramesh Fotos

Ramesh Fotos has been sitting here at 211 Salem Main Road for a good long time. It’s a busy road, so there is always a lot of dust and noise from the traffic outside. We spend our days taking pictures, mostly passport photos or small family portraits when people stop by. The lighting in the shop isn't always perfect, but we make it work with what we have. I usually have a camera around my neck and a few lenses scattered on the counter. People come in for all kinds of reasons. Sometimes it’s for a government form, other times they just want a memory of their kids growing up. We have some old frames sitting in the corner that have been there since I can remember. The shop isn't very large, so it gets a bit cramped when more than two people are waiting. I try to keep the floor swept, though with people coming in from the main road, it’s a constant battle. We don't have any big corporate goals or anything like that. We just like taking photos and seeing the look on someone's face when the print comes out right. It’s a simple business. We open early and stay until the sun goes down. If you’re driving down Salem Main Road, you can’t really miss us. Just look for the old sign. It’s been a part of the landscape here for years and we aren't going anywhere.
