Being a surveyor means you spend more time outside than in any office. We are based out of Thottathil in Cheriyavelinalloor, at house number 10 91. It’s a quiet spot, mostly residential, which is nice when we finally get home. Most of our work involves measuring land and making sure boundaries are where people say they are. It sounds simple, but when you're out in the heat or dealing with overgrown bushes, it gets tiring. We use our equipment to get the levels right and then we go back and write it all down. People usually call us when they're having a disagreement with a neighbor or if they’re planning to build something new. We’ve walked over a lot of different terrains around here. Some days the weather doesn't cooperate and we have to pack up early. It’s just how it goes. We don't have a fancy website or a big marketing budget. Most of our work comes from people in the area who know we do a decent job with the measurements. It’s technical work but we try to explain it in a way that makes sense to the owner. There’s a lot of math involved, and you have to be careful with the numbers. If we aren’t out in the field, we’re usually at the desk checking the data we collected earlier. It's just us doing our job one plot at a time. It's honest work and it keeps us busy.
