Bishop Benziger Hospital

Bishop Benziger Hospital is right on Beach Road in Kollam. You can see the water from some of the upper windows, and you can definitely smell the salt air when you walk out the front doors. It’s an old building, and it has that specific hospital smell—a mix of cleaning supplies and medicine. We’ve been a part of the Kollam community for a long time. People here know us. We see patients from all over the area. Some walk in from the beach side, others come from further inland. It’s always a bit chaotic. There are stretchers moving through the halls and people waiting in the lobby. We don't have those fancy automated kiosks. We still have people behind a desk checking you in with paper forms and pens. Our nurses and doctors are usually tired, but they stay on their feet. The sound of the waves is actually quite nice during a night shift when things finally quiet down for a few minutes. We have a small canteen that serves basic food, nothing special, but it fills you up. The walls could probably use a fresh coat of paint, but we spend the budget on supplies and equipment instead. We aren't trying to be a five-star hotel. We are just a hospital on the coast trying to take care of the folks who live around here. It’s hard work, but we’ve been doing it for years. That's our place, and we keep at it.
