Aravind Medical Centre

Aravind Medical Centre is situated in Thatta Sseri in Chavara. It’s a straightforward medical spot where people come when they aren't feeling their best. The building is simple, and we try to keep it as tidy as possible, though with people coming in and out all day, there’s always something to mop or straighten up. We open up early in the morning, and usually, there’s already someone waiting by the door. We spend our time checking blood pressures, writing down notes, and making sure the supplies are stocked up. It’s not a very big place, so we all know each other’s business and help out where it’s needed. Sometimes the waiting room gets a bit crowded, and we have to bring out a few extra plastic chairs. The street outside can be noisy, but inside we just focus on the task at hand. We don't have any polished speeches or corporate slogans. We just work. In the afternoons, when things slow down for a bit, we usually sit and talk about what’s for dinner or how the local football matches are going. It’s a community-oriented kind of place. Most of us grew up not too far from here, so Chavara feels like home. We just take each day as it comes and try to make sure that the patients get seen without waiting too long in the Kerala heat. It's a busy life but we're used to it.
