Lal Bazar Street is always crowded. The Mercantile Building is one of those old buildings in Kolkata that has seen better days, but it has character. We are on the third floor. The elevator is old and sometimes we just take the stairs because it’s faster, even if it leaves us a bit winded. Inside Zircon Polyplast Pvt Ltd, it's mostly stacks of papers and samples of plastic products. It’s a bit of a maze with all the files we’ve kept over the years. We have a few big windows that look out over the street, but they’re usually closed to keep out the dust and noise. The team here has been together for a long time. We know each other’s families and what everyone likes for lunch. It’s a very informal atmosphere. We don't have big meetings or presentations. If we need to talk, we just shout across the room or walk over. We handle a lot of orders for plastic components. It’s a lot of checking specs and making sure numbers match. Sometimes we have a little trouble with the internet, but we manage. It’s just a normal office in a busy city. We do our work, talk about the football scores, and head home. It’s nothing spectacular, just a steady job in a busy old building. The tea boy comes by twice a day and he never forgets the biscuits. We like it here well enough.
