We are down at 5 Bolai Dutta Street. This is the place where Zia Hide Skin Agency has been based for a very long time. It is an old street and the building really reflects that history. The space is mostly used for storing and handling our stock. It is not the kind of place that is meant to look pretty or impress anyone. It is a working warehouse and a small office combined into one. There is a lot of heavy lifting involved in our day-to-day work. We are surrounded by other similar businesses in this specific neighborhood. The smell of the hides is just part of the job. You get used to it after a day or two of being here. We have a small office area where we keep all the books and records. Most of the day is spent moving items around and checking the quality of the skins. Doing things the traditional way is just how we operate. We do not have much in the way of modern technology, just what we absolutely need to get by. The street outside is narrow and often gets blocked by delivery carts and trucks. We have known the people on this block for many years. This neighborhood feels like a tight-knit community in its own way. We just keep doing what we have always done. It is hard physical work, but it keeps us busy. We start early and finish up when the work is done.
