Being on Brabourne Road means we are right in the middle of everything in Kolkata. Our place at number 13 is always a bit noisy because of the forging work and the heavy traffic outside. If you walk by our entrance, you will probably hear the hammers going throughout the day. It is an old building, and the walls have seen a lot of soot and wear over the years. Forging isn't a clean job by any means, so our clothes usually have some oil or iron dust on them by the time lunch rolls around. We make different metal parts that other companies need for their own machines. It takes some muscle and a lot of patience to get the shapes exactly right. Most of the staff live nearby or take the bus in every single morning. We don't have a fancy lobby or any air conditioning in the main work area. Instead, you will see stacks of raw steel and the big furnaces where we heat things up. It gets pretty warm inside, even with the big industrial fans running at full speed. We just focus on the metal and making sure the dimensions are what they should be. It has been this way for a long time now. Sometimes the rain floods the street outside, but we stay inside and keep the hammers moving. It is just honest work with heavy tools. We don't talk much while we work because of the noise.
