Walk In Clinic

This clinic is right on Central Avenue, which is one of the main roads in Kolkata. Because it is a walk-in place, we never really know how many people are going to show up on any given day. Some mornings are very quiet, and then suddenly the waiting room is full. The building is an older one, like many in this part of Kolkata, with high ceilings and heavy doors. You can hear the trams and the buses rumbling outside all day long. Inside, we have a simple setup with a registration desk and a few consultation rooms. The files are kept in folders on the shelves behind the desk. We use a lot of paper here still. The staff is used to the fast pace of the city. We have a small fan behind the counter that helps with the heat. People just drop in when they have a cough or a fever. It is a very direct way of doing things. We don't have a lot of fancy decorations, just the basic medical equipment and some chairs for the patients. The floor is old stone that stays relatively cool. It is a bit of a squeeze when it gets busy, but we manage. Central Avenue is always loud, but once you step inside, the noise fades a little bit. We are just here to help the people passing by or living in the nearby blocks.
