Vice President, Harbauer India (P) Ltd, Kolkatta

Working in Kolkata has a rhythm you don't find anywhere else. Our office for Harbauer India is right in the heart of the city. As the Vice President here, I spend a lot of my time just keeping things moving between the different departments. It’s a lot of paperwork and meetings, to be honest. We deal with some pretty technical stuff involving water and environmental engineering. It’s not always exciting, but it’s important work. The city is loud outside our windows and the humidity can be a bit much in the summer months. We don't have a big fancy glass building. It’s more of a practical office where everyone knows their job. We’ve been operating in Kolkata for a while and we’ve grown to understand how things work here. Some days are just about solving one small problem after another. I don't really like the corporate title much. I’m usually just at my desk or walking around talking to the engineers. We have people who have been with us for years, so it feels a bit like a family. We don't do a lot of flashy advertising. Most of our projects come through established contacts. We just try to keep the standards up and make sure we aren't falling behind. It’s a steady pace. Kolkata is a city that respects history, and we’re glad to be a small part of its industrial landscape. We just keep our heads down and do the work.
