Down at 542, N-Block New Alipor, you’ll find Universal Machine Tools Mfg. Co. It’s a bit of a trek if you’re coming from the other side of town, but once you get into N-Block, we’re easy to spot. Our workshop is full of heavy equipment and the smell of metal and cutting fluid. It’s not the cleanest environment, but it’s a productive one. We spend most of our time at the lathes or checking the measurements on a new tool we’re making. We don't have a fancy showroom. Most people just come straight into the back where the machines are. We’ve been making tools for a long time, and we’ve learned that there’s no shortcut to getting things right. You just have to put in the hours. New Alipore is a decent neighborhood, and we’ve made a lot of friends among the other business owners nearby. We often trade favors or borrow a tool when something breaks. We don't have a website that’s updated every day or a bunch of slogans on the wall. We just have a calendar and a list of things that need to be finished by Friday. Our sentences are short and our coffee is strong. We like it that way. If you need something specific, you can just show us a drawing or an old part, and we’ll tell you if we can recreate it. No fluff, just machines.
