Matheswartala Road is a busy place, especially for anyone in the leather trade. We are at 114D. If you come down this way, you’ll know it by the specific smell of the tanneries and the leather being processed. It’s a tough area, very industrial and gritty. Our agency handles a lot of different types of leather. We spend our days looking at hides, checking the quality, and moving heavy bundles around. It is hard work and your hands get dirty pretty fast. The building isn't much to look at from the outside, but it’s where all the business happens. We have a small office space that is usually filled with samples and ledgers. People come in from all over to talk about prices and what’s available this week. We don't use a lot of big talk here at Universal Leather Agency. We just show the leather and see if it’s what they need. The trucks are always coming and going on the road outside, which makes it hard to hear sometimes. It can be a long day, starting early to beat the heat and staying until the last load is moved. We’ve been in this spot for years, and we know most of the other people on the road. It’s a community built on hard work and knowing your materials. There isn't much room for anything else besides the business of leather. We just keep our heads down and get the orders filled.
