The Indian Express

Our place is at 39 A, Prince Gulam Mohd Shah Road, specifically in the B/5/3 section of the Cmda Housing Project in Kolkata. It’s a bit of a specific address to navigate if you aren't from around here. The housing project is a big complex, and we are just one part of the daily life going on in Kolkata-95. At The Indian Express, the atmosphere is usually a bit hurried. There is always a deadline or something that needs to be printed or checked. The air in the office often smells like newsprint and coffee. We have desks cluttered with newspapers, notebooks, and half-eaten snacks. It’s not the kind of place you’d see in a magazine. It’s real and a bit chaotic. Outside, the road is always busy with rickshaws and people walking to the local shops. Kolkata is a city that never really seems to be quiet, and this neighborhood is no different. We spend a lot of time sitting in old chairs that creak when you move. The lighting isn't great, and sometimes the internet is slow, but the work gets done anyway. We aren't here to impress anyone with a fancy lobby. We are here to handle the day-to-day operations of a newspaper. It’s about the stories and the facts, and that doesn't require a polished office. It’s just us, the paper, and the city.
