If you head into the central part of Kolkata, you’ll find us at 2/A, Akrur Dutta Lane. It’s one of those narrow lanes that has so much character, even if it’s a bit hard to find the first time. Tantia Constructions has been operating from this little corner for a long while. It’s a bit of a squeeze getting vehicles in and out, but we make it work. The office itself is pretty plain. We don’t go in for expensive furniture or art on the walls. Most of the space is taken up by blueprints and samples of building materials. We do a lot of the heavy construction work that the city needs, like railway projects and large foundations. It’s a lot of responsibility, so the atmosphere is usually pretty serious. We have people who have worked here for thirty years, and they’ve seen the company go through all sorts of phases. Akrur Dutta Lane is a quiet enough spot compared to the main roads nearby, which is nice when you need to focus on complex calculations. We don’t have a marketing team writing stuff for us; we just tell people what we’ve built and let that be it. It’s a very human way of doing things. Sometimes things are a bit messy, but that’s the reality of construction. We just keep showing up and getting the bricks laid and the steel tied, year after year, and it works for us and our clients.
