Surajit & Co. is located at number 2, Nimu Goswami Lane, right in the heart of Ahiritola and Beniatola. This part of the city has those narrow lanes where you really have to know your way around to get anywhere. We have been operating from this old building for quite a long time. It’s got that classic North Kolkata feel with high ceilings and thick walls. We do a bit of everything here when it comes to trading and supplying goods. It’s not a modern office with glass walls or air conditioning in every corner. Instead, it’s a place where we sit with our ledgers and talk to people who have been doing business with us for years. You can hear the sounds of the street outside all day long. Sometimes the rain makes things difficult because the lanes get a bit flooded, but we manage. Our neighbors are mostly other small businesses and families who have lived here for generations. We don't spend money on big advertisements. Our name is on a simple board outside. Most people find us through word of mouth or because they’ve been coming here since their fathers' time. It’s a slow and steady kind of business. We focus on getting the work done and making sure our records are right. There is a lot of history in these streets, and we are just one small part of it, keeping things moving every day.
