Our place is at 71 Topsia Road South. If you know Topsia, you know it’s the place for leather. Star Tanning Industries Pvt. Ltd. has been operating from this spot for quite a while now. The air around here always has that distinct smell of tanning and raw materials, which is something you just get used to after a couple of days. The building is large and a bit old, with concrete floors that have seen a lot of heavy use. We have the machines running for most of the day, so there’s always a steady hum in the background. It’s not the kind of office where you wear a suit. We are usually in our work clothes, dealing with the hides and making sure the processing is going the way it should. It’s heavy work and it gets very hot near the vats, especially in the summer. We have a small area where we keep the finished leather, and we’re quite proud of how that looks, even if the rest of the factory is a bit gritty. There are trucks coming in and out of the yard all day long, so it’s always a bit of a scramble to keep the driveway clear for the next load. We just focus on the tanning process and try to keep things running smoothly without any big hiccups. It is just basic, honest work.
