We are located at 23 Maharshi Devendra Road, right in the heart of the city in Ganguly Lane. If you’ve ever been to this part of Kolkata, you know how tight the streets are. It’s the old part of town and it’s always crowded with people and carts. Our office is right in the middle of all that chaos. We’ve been doing project work here for Srijan Projects for a long time. The building we are in has seen better days but it works for us. Inside, it’s mostly just stacks of papers and people talking on mobile phones about deliveries. We handle a lot of the ground-level stuff for our buildings. Dealing with the local vendors and the city offices takes up most of our time. It’s not a glamorous job. You spend a lot of time sweating in the humidity and trying to make sure the trucks can actually get through the narrow lanes to the sites. Sometimes the power goes out and we just sit and wait for it to come back. It’s just the reality of working in this part of West Bengal. We know the area like the back of our hand. We don't have any big speeches about what we do. We just build things and try to make sure they stay standing. It’s a lot of coordination and sometimes things don't go according to plan, but we stay busy anyway. It's just normal life.
