Santanu Karmakar Photography

I’m based out of Sodpur and I’ve been doing photography for quite a while now. Santanu Karmakar Photography isn’t a big studio with lights and assistants everywhere. Usually, it’s just me and my camera gear. I spend a lot of time traveling around the area to wherever the work takes me. Sodpur is a good home base for me and I know the streets well. My workspace at home is usually covered in memory cards, lenses, and charging cables. It’s a bit of a mess, but I know exactly where the important stuff is kept. I don’t really go for those highly edited, fake-looking photos that you see in magazines. I prefer things to look like they actually did when I clicked the button. People usually hire me for local events or family stuff. I’m not into the big corporate events with suits and long speeches. I’d rather be at a wedding or a small gathering where people are just being themselves and having fun. I don’t have a fancy sales pitch for anyone. If you like my pictures, that’s great. If not, that’s fine too. I just try to capture what’s happening without getting in the way or making people feel uncomfortable. It’s a quiet life mostly, spent waiting for the right light or editing at my desk late at night. Sometimes the work is slow, and other times I’m busy for weeks. That’s just the nature of it here in Sodpur.
