Smitabh Intercon Ltd. is located on Camac Street, inside the Vardaan building in Suite 406. This part of Kolkata is always moving, and you can hear the horns honking from the street even though we are four floors up. The office feels lived-in, with lots of files and papers stacked on the desks. We have those old wooden cabinets that have been here since the beginning, and they are still holding up fine. It’s a typical city office where space is tight, so every corner has something in it. We spend a lot of time on the computer or talking to people on the telephone. The air conditioner hums in the background, trying to keep the humid air at bay. Sometimes the elevator in the building is slow, so we end up taking the stairs if we’re in a hurry. Our team is small, mostly people who have worked together for a good number of years now. We have a small corner for making tea, which is pretty much the most important part of the afternoon. It’s not a fancy corporate environment with modern art on the walls. It’s just a place where we do our business every day. Most of the light comes from the fluorescent tubes overhead. We don't do much in the way of big presentations. We just handle the paperwork and keep things moving. It's a steady way to spend the work week for us.
