We are set up on the first floor of Mitatli Sangha, over on Ishan Mondal Garden Road. This is in the Behala area of Kolkata, 700 034. If you know this part of the city, you know how the streets can be narrow and crowded, especially when it rains. Our office for Simplex Infrastructures Ltd. fits right into the neighborhood. It’s an old building with high ceilings and heavy doors. We have desks tucked into every available space because there is always a lot of paperwork to manage. The sounds of the street, like the rickshaws and the local vendors, come right through the windows. It’s not a quiet place, but it feels like home to those of us who work here every day. We don't have a big sign or a fancy entrance. You just walk up the stairs and you're in the middle of the workspace. There’s a lot of talk about the local traffic and the football scores while we handle the technical drawings and the site reports. We keep a stash of biscuits in the drawer for when the afternoon slump hits. The files are organized in a way that only we really understand. It’s a busy, cramped, and very real office. We aren't corporate types; we are just the staff making sure the Kolkata projects for Simplex are handled correctly day by day. We just try to keep things moving despite the humidity and the city noise.
