Manohar Pukur Second Lane is one of those classic South Kolkata spots where the lanes are narrow and the houses are close together. Our office is at 3D, and it can be a bit hard to find if you aren't looking for the small sign on the door. We are Simplex Infrastructures Ltd., and this is where we handle the administrative side of our local construction work. It is a small office, and we have to be careful not to trip over each other when the whole team is in. We spend a lot of time looking at blueprints spread out over the tables and arguing about the best way to move heavy equipment through these tight streets. The neighborhood is mostly residential, so we try to keep the noise down, though the phone rings pretty much constantly. We don't have a big corporate culture here; it is more like a group of people who have worked together for a long time. We know each other's families and often share snacks brought from home during the afternoon. The office might be small, but it is the brain for a lot of big projects happening out in the city. We deal with the permits, the payroll, and the endless logistics of getting steel and cement to where it needs to go. It is a plain, hardworking space for a plain, hardworking business.
