Situated at 156 Bidhan Pally, our office sits right in the Garia part of Kolkata. Finding a place to park your bike or car around here is a nightmare because of how narrow the streets are. Our work involves ferro alloys, which keeps us busy from morning until late evening. The building we are in is quite old, so you have to watch your step on the stairs. Inside the rooms, filing cabinets are stuffed with papers going back years and years. Because of the Kolkata humidity, we rely on a couple of noisy air conditioners that seem to struggle in the peak of summer. Most of the day is spent on the phone with suppliers or tracking shipments down at the port. People are constantly walking in and out, like delivery guys or staff from nearby shops. Usually, we grab our afternoon tea from the stall on the corner since the guy there knows exactly how we like it. The noise from the rickshaws and buses outside never really stops, but you get used to it after a week. There isn’t a fancy waiting room with leather chairs or anything like that here. It is just a practical office where the real work happens without any fuss. Being in Garia for so long means we know all the neighbors and the local routines. It’s a bit of a messy setup, but it’s how we’ve always operated.
