Our shop is at No. 18 Rabindra Sarani, specifically at Podder Court Gate No. 4. If you know the area, you know it is always humming with people and carts moving back and forth. We have been making lamp shades here for a good while. Inside the shop, there are frames of all shapes hanging from the ceiling and rolls of fabric tucked into every corner. It’s not a large place, so we have to be careful where we step. Making shades is mostly hand work. We bend the wires, stretch the cloth, and glue everything down so it stays put. It takes some patience because the glue can be messy and the fabric sometimes doesn't want to sit right on the curves. People bring in old lamps that have been in their families for years, looking to get a new shade that matches the old style. We do what we can with what we have. Sometimes we run out of a specific color and have to wait for the next delivery, which can be frustrating, but that’s life. The light in the shop is always a bit strange because of all the different shades we have sitting around, but it makes for a quiet atmosphere despite the noise coming from the street outside. We usually open up early and stay until the sun goes down, just keeping busy with the fabric and the wire frames.
