S. A. Exports

Our work happens at the Kolkata Leather Complex, specifically over in Zone No. 4. We are located at Plot No. 309 on Sapgachi 1St Lane. It is a very specific part of the city meant for this kind of work. S. A. Exports is basically a warehouse and a small office space where we handle all the shipping and receiving. The air around here always smells like leather and salt, which is something you just get used to after a week. It’s not a quiet place. There are always carts and loaders moving through the lanes. We spend a lot of time checking stacks of materials and making sure the paperwork for the exports is okay. The building itself is just a functional structure at No. 1/T. It’s dusty and practical. We don't have fancy furniture or a reception desk. Usually, we are just wearing boots and moving things around. The weather in Kolkata gets really humid, so the fans are always running in the workspace. It’s a lot of repetitive tasks, but it’s what we do. People who work here have been in the leather trade for a long time. We know the routines of the complex and when the trucks are likely to get stuck in traffic. It’s just a regular job for us at the end of the day. We have tea together in the afternoon when things slow down a bit before the final pickups happen.
