You can find us at 24 Sagar Dutta Lane, which is just off C.R. Avenue in Kolkata. It is right in the middle of everything. The street is quite narrow and it is always packed with people, rickshaws, and carts. We work with timber products. Our office usually smells like wood and old paper. We have been in this exact spot for a lot of years. It is a very traditional kind of setup. We have different kinds of wood coming through our books, like teak and sal, mostly for furniture or building work. It is a heavy business to be in. Moving those big logs and planks through these narrow lanes is a nightmare sometimes. But the guys know how to do it without making too much of a mess. We spend our days checking wood quality and talking to local carpenters. It is definitely not a clean job. There is always some saw dust hiding somewhere. We do not have a modern showroom with lights. If you come by to see us, you will see piles of wood and our staff writing things down in big ledger books. We still like doing things the old way. It works for us. The tea guy comes around twice a day and that is when we finally take a break. The Kolkata heat makes the shop quite warm, so we keep the fans running constantly to stay cool.
