S Deb & Co is situated on Sodepur Road in Kolkata. If you know where Jaya Apartment is, then you are pretty close to our office. It’s a straightforward place to work. We don't have any big corporate mission or anything like that. We just come in every morning, open the shutters, and start working on the files. The area around here is mostly residential, so it feels a bit calmer than the center of the city. Jaya Apartment is a good landmark because people always get lost on Sodepur Road otherwise. Our office space is filled with books and folders that have been around for quite some time. We handle different kinds of accounting and business work for local people. It is not the kind of place where you need to wear a tie. We mostly wear whatever is comfortable for the weather. Sometimes it gets really hot in the afternoon, so we have a couple of fans going at full speed. We try to keep things organized, but there is always a bit of a mess on someone's desk. It’s just the nature of the work I suppose. We’ve been here for years and the locals know who we are. We don't do much advertising; people just hear about us from their neighbors. It is a small team and we all know each other's habits by now. It works for us and we keep things moving.
