S. A. Plywood Industries

We are located on the 4th floor at 19 Pollock Street. It’s an old building, and the stairs can be a bit of a climb if the lift isn't working right. We deal with plywood and related materials. Because we are on an upper floor, most of our heavy stock is kept in a different warehouse, but this is where we handle all the orders and talk to customers. The office usually smells a bit like wood dust and old paper. We have samples of different finishes and thicknesses scattered around for people to look at. It’s not a very modern space, but it works for what we need. We spend our time talking to contractors and furniture makers who need specific types of board. Sometimes the deliveries are a bit slow because of the traffic in this part of town, which can be quite a mess during peak hours. We try to be upfront about how long things will take. My assistant handles most of the calls while I check the quality of the batches coming in. We’ve been in the wood business for a long time, so we know which sheets are good and which ones have flaws. We don’t have a website or anything like that; we just use the phone and face-to-face meetings. It's a traditional way of doing things, but it has served us well so far. We just stay focused on the inventory and getting the wood out to the clients.
