Down in Kumartooly, at 1A Silpi Nitai Pal Lane, is where we set up Rmc Readymix (India) Pvt. Limited. This part of Kolkata is famous for the idol makers, but we are just here for the concrete. It’s a very old and narrow part of the city. Finding our spot for the first time might be a bit tricky if you aren't used to these lanes. We have a small office where we handle all the logistics. The concrete business in West Bengal can be quite unpredictable with the weather and the holidays, but we stay open as much as we can. We don't use any fancy management speak. We just tell you when the truck will arrive and what is in the mix. Most of our day is spent making sure the supply of raw materials doesn't run out. We have a few guys who have been with us since the start. We don't bother with fancy uniforms or glossy signs. People in Kumartooly know us by name. It’s a bit cramped in the office sometimes, especially when the drivers come in to hand over their logs. We just keep things moving. We aren't trying to change the world; we are just trying to help people build their houses and shops. That is our life here on Silpi Nitai Pal Lane. There isn't much to it besides hard work and making sure the concrete is ready when needed.
